20.25¢ per kWh is about even with Michigan's 2025 residential average of 20.03¢. July 2026 in the state was 23.05¢, versus 20.55¢ a year earlier (+12.2%). 2,078,315 residential customers were on DTE full service in 2025, at 20.25¢ per kWh. That average folds in the customer charge and whatever riders the utility booked as residential revenue. It is not the last block on a tiered tariff.
Michigan Public Service Commission, Case U-21860. On February 19, 2026 the Michigan PSC approved an additional $242,406,000 for DTE Electric, against a request of about $574.1 million filed April 24, 2025. The return on equity stays 9.9 percent; the company had sought 10.75 percent. A typical residential customer using 500 kWh pays about $4.93 more, or 4.6 percent.… The rate-case section has the full citation.
DTE customers average 623 kWh a month in the 2025 filing. Michigan households statewide averaged 635 kWh. Electric heat, a heat pump, or a cold snap sits well above a 12-month average, which is why a January bill and a May bill are not a rate case.
EIA's 2025 dynamic-pricing file shows residential time-of-use activity at DTE, with 22,447 residential customers enrolled in dynamic pricing. The expensive window is in the tariff, not in that enrollment count. Shifting a dishwasher or an EV charger only helps if you are actually on that schedule.
