Why a Entergy Louisiana bill moved

The price change was the larger piece

From 2024 to 2025 the average full service bill at Entergy Louisiana moved +8.5%, from $135.28 to $146.76. Holding the 2024 price fixed, the usage change of +0.8% is worth $1.05 a month. The price change of +7.7%, from 11.05¢ to 11.90¢, is worth $10.48 on 2025 usage.

Below the Louisiana average

11.90¢ per kWh is below Louisiana's 2025 residential average of 12.52¢. July 2026 in the state was 12.72¢, versus 13.12¢ a year earlier (−3.0%). The utility figure is a full year of average revenue. The state figure is one later month. A household that uses more than 1,233 kWh will not land on $146.76.

One full-service average

961,871 residential customers were on Entergy Louisiana full service in 2025, at 11.90¢ per kWh. That average folds in the customer charge and whatever riders the utility booked as residential revenue. It is not the last block on a tiered tariff.

Season

Entergy Louisiana customers in Louisiana average 1,233 kWh a month across the whole year, against a statewide residential average of 1,225 kWh. Summer afternoons do not look like that average. An air conditioner, a pool pump, or a hotter month can move the bill before any rider does.

Data-center load is not a line on this bill

National electricity demand is rising, and EIA points to large computing facilities. No retrieved order isolates a data-center dollar on a Entergy Louisiana residential account. That pass-through needs verification.

2024 formula-rate test year cut bills about $4.40

On December 17, 2025 the Louisiana PSC accepted the uncontested joint report on Entergy Louisiana's formula rate plan for test year 2024. The earned return was 9.98 percent, against a 9.70 percent midpoint, and the order describes a customer credit of $31,870,949 on September and October 2025 bills. The public notice of that result says formula-rate revenues decrease about $189 million and a typical residential 1,000 kWh bill falls about $4.40 beginning with the first billing cycle of September 2025.

2026 formula-rate notice estimates about +$6.35, and is not a final vote

Entergy Louisiana's June 1, 2026 public notice for test year 2025 says the earned return, 9.63 percent, is inside the dead band, so there is no base formula-rate change from earnings. The notice still estimates a net formula-rate revenue increase of $226 million from tax, transmission, distribution, and MISO mechanisms, and about $6.35 on a typical legacy residential 1,000 kWh bill starting with the first billing cycle of September 2026. That figure is the company's filed estimate in the notice, not an LPSC vote.

How to lower the bill

  1. Read the kilowatt-hours against this filing's average of 1,233 kWh a month. If your use is the thing that moved, the dollar total can rise on an unchanged rate.
  2. On the statement, separate the base energy charge from fuel or rider lines. A rider can move the total in a month when no new base-rate order exists.
  3. In Louisiana, the expensive hours are late afternoon and early evening in summer. Raise the cooling setpoint when you are out, and run the dryer, the dishwasher, and any pool pump outside those hours if your tariff charges more then.
  4. Start with LIHEAP for Louisiana (https://www.acf.hhs.gov/ocs/map/liheap-map-state-and-territory-contact-listing). A Entergy Louisiana discount beyond that program needs verification.
  5. If the read is marked estimated, the next actual read can true the account up or down. The tariff rule for that true-up needs verification.

Entergy Louisiana may also offer an income-qualified discount, budget billing, or a medical baseline. The current offer, income cutoff, and how to apply need verification on the utility site and with the state LIHEAP office and Louisiana Public Service Commission.

Are data centers why this bill went up?

Large computing load is raising U.S. electricity demand, and regulators can later recover new generation and wires costs from customers. EIA has not published a dollar line that isolates data centers on this utility's residential bill. That pass-through needs verification.
